Playing career
Artyom played as a youth with Amurskie Tigry Khabarovsk, the junior affiliate of Amur Khabarovsk. He then made his professional breakout with Amur Khabarovsk in the Kontinental Hockey League during the 2014-15 season. During the 2016-17 season, Zub’s third with Amur, he recorded 9 points in 32 games prior to being traded to a powerhouse club SKA Saint Petersburg on December 1, 2016. He held a regular role on the SKA blueline to close out the season. In the post-season, Zub assisted the club win the Gagarin Cup with 2 assists in 18 games.
His play in the KHL and the Olympics attracted the attention of the National Hockey League’s Ottawa Senators. The Senators signed him to an NHL-standard entry-level deal as an undrafted free agent for one season on May 1, 2020. Zub scored his first NHL goal in a 6-5 overtime victory over the Toronto Maple Leafs at the Scotiabank Arena in Toronto on February 15, 2021. In his first season, Zub was regularly paired on defence with Ottawa’s top defenceman Thomas Chabot. He then signed a two-year, $5 million extension with the Senators on May 14, 2021.
