She started her journalism and media career as a radio reporter from 1999 to 2002, for Guildford-based County Sound Radio. From August 2002 to March 2004, she joined local television station MyTV Portsmouth as a reporter. When the station was forced to dismiss its staff, Byrne was promoted to news editor at the station. When Portsmouth TV stopped broadcasting, she moved to Oxford’s local Tv station, six TV for six months from March 2004 to August 2004.
