Who is Anderson Cooper?

Anderson Cooper is an American television journalist as well as the primary anchor of Anderson Cooper 360˚ on CNN. He also serves as a correspondent for CBS News’ show 60 Minutes. Cooper comes from a wealthy Manhattan family and Yale University graduate.

He used to travel around the world as a young journalist where he shot footage of war-torn regions for Channel One News. ABC News later hired him in 1995 to work as a correspondent. Channel One

After graduating from Yale, Cooper attempted to get an entry-level job with ABC answering calls but was unsuccessful. He decided to get the help of a friend to make a fake press pass since he was finding it difficult to get an on-air reporting job. At the moment, Cooper was working Channel One’s small news agency as a fact-checker. He later joined Myanmar with his fake press pass where he met with students confronting the Burmese government. Eventually, he was able to sell his own news segments to Channel One.

Cooper later moved to Vietnam after reporting for Myanmar. He stayed in Vietnam for a year where he studied the Vietnamese language at the University of Hanoi. Cooper managed to convince Channel One to allow him to carry the Hi-8 camera where he started filming and compiling reports of the Vietnamese way of life that aired on Channel One. In 1992, he started filming stories from various war-torn global regions including Bosnia, Somalia, and Rwanda.


Cooper joined ABC News in 1995 where he became a correspondent and eventually rose to the position of co-anchor of World News Now, an overnight program on September 21, 1999. Then in 2000, he changed his career path and took the job of hosting the reality show, The Mole on ABC.
