Alfonso Ribeiro (Alfonso Lincoln Ribeiro Sr.) is an American actor, TV director, game show host, and dancer best known for his portrayal of Carlton Banks on NBC’s The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air. He made his debut in Oye Ollie (1980). His breakthrough came in The Tap Dance Kid (1983) where he played a starring role. His performance caught the eye of Michael Jackson who recruited him soon after in 1984 for a Pepsi commercial. Alfonso is also famous as a host of GSN Live, Your Big Break Catch 21, Spell-Mageddon, Dance 360, Dance Battle America, and currently of America’s Funniest Home Videos which he has hosted since 2015.
Alfonso’s breakout role came as Will Smith’s cousin, Carlton Banks- a beloved quirky character who frequently danced in the now-famous “The Carlton” routine. The show ran between 1990-1996. He went on to appear in “In the House” alongside LL Cool J & Debbie Allen from 1995 to 1999.
