Alex Pereira, Alexsandro Pereira, is a well-known Brazilian professional mixed martial artist and former kickboxer. Pereira currently competes in the Middleweight division in the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC), where he is the current UFC Middleweight Champion. In kickboxing, Pereira is a former Glory middleweight and light heavyweight champion. He is the first and only fighter to have held Glory titles in two weight classes simultaneously. He also competed in promotions including It’s Showtime and SUPERKOMBAT Fighting Championship. As of February 2021, Pereira is rated No. 1 in the kickboxing middleweight and light-heavyweight rankings.

Kickboxing career

Pereira won the Glory 14: Zagreb – Middleweight Contender Tournament in Zagreb, Croatia on March 8, 2014. He defeated Dustin Jacoby via first-round knockout in the semi-finals and Sahak Parparyan via majority decision in the final. It was then announced during the Glory 15: Instanbul broadcast that he would be among the eight fighters competing in the Glory 17: Los Angeles- Last Man Standing middleweight tournament on June 21, 2014, in Inglewood, California, United States. Pereira lost to the final champion Artem Levin by unanimous decision in the quarter-finals to leave the tournament.

Pereira was expected to fight a rematch with Cesar Almeida during WGP Kickboxing 25 for the vacant belt WGP Middleweight title. He won the bout against Almeida by decision. Pereira defended his WGP KB title with a second-round KO of Maycon Silva at WGP KB 40. In his following 5 bouts, he went on a 4-1 run, losing only to the pound-for-pound great Artur Kyshenko. During this run, he achieved his most famous wins, beating the future UFC Middleweight champion Israel Adesanya twice: once by unanimous decision and again by a counter left hook KO. Early career

Transitioning from kickboxing, he made his professional mixed martial arts debut in 2015, losing the bout by submission. He then earned two straight wins and revealed he had signed a deal to face Diego Henrique da Silva in the Brazilian edition of Dana White‘s Contender Series on August 10, 2018. However, the fight never materialized as Glory denied him permission to compete. News then surfaced on October 22, 2020, that he had signed a deal with Legacy Fighting Alliance.
